Dr. Aznan is currently a Professor at the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF), International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM).

He is the former President of the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS) from 2011 to 2020. He is currently the Chairman of ASAS Advisory Council from 2020. He is also the Deputy Chairman of Shariah Advisory Council (SAC) of the Securities Commission (SC) and a former member of the SAC of Bank Negara Malaysia. He is a registered Shariah advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic Securities (Sukuk), SC. He is also the Chairman of the Shariah Committee of Amanah Hartanah Bumiputra.

Within the Maybank group, Dr. Aznan is the Chairman of the Shariah Committee of Maybank Islamic Berhad since 1 May 2014, and a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of Maybank Islamic Berhad since 25 April 2019.

He was the Chairman of the Group Shariah Committee of Etiqa Takaful from 1^st May 2019 till 31^st December 2022.

Dr. Aznan received his first degree in Shariah from the University of al-Azhar and a Master’s degree in Shariah from Cairo University with distinction (mumtaz). He then obtained his PhD from the University of Wales, Lampeter, United Kingdom.
