Associate Professor Dr Azman Mohd Noor

Dr Azman bin Mohd Noor is currently an Associate Professor at the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He was previously the Deputy Dean (Academic and Student Affairs) of IIiBF and Head of Department of the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, IIUM. He completed his degree in Islamic Law in 1997 at the Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia. He then completed his Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Islamic Criminal Law in 2000 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia) and another M.A. degree in Muamalat (Islamic Law of Transactions) in 2001 at the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, IIUM. He obtained his Ph.D in Islamic Law in 2005 at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

His areas of interest include Islamic Law of Transactions, Islamic Banking and Capital Market, Takaful and Retakaful, and Zakat Management and Calculation. He has been supervising M.A. and Ph.D students in the field of Islamic Banking and Capital Market at the Department of Fiqh and the Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, IIUM since 2006.

Prior to his appointment as a Shariah Committee member of Etiqa Family & General Takaful, he was the Chairman of the Shariah Committee of another takaful operator for almost 10 years.

He is also a former member of the Shariah Advisory Council of Securities Commission Malaysia from 2012 to 2014. Currently, he serves as a member of the Shariah Committee for several Islamic financial institutions.

He was appointed as a Shariah Committee member of Etiqa Family & General Takaful and Independent Director, Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad on 15 June 2020.
